Bitter root


Bitter Root, Lewisia Rediviva, is native to North America.  The Root is harvested from a small flowering plant that has a single white or pink flower.  The value of this plant is found in the woody roots.  The roots of this plant are bitter to the taste and have a high concentration of nutrients.  These roots are used to relieve pain, eliminate respiratory irritation, calm nerves, purify skin, detox the body, regulate blood sugar, and settle upset stomachs. If you have never consumed it is advised to start off with small amounts.

How to prepare Bitter Root:

  • Boil roots until swell in size
  • dry them out and grind up into powder to use in tea or receipes
  • *You can also consume just the root itself
